Welcome to SP in the Wild!
SP in the Wild is dedicated to the realities of building, managing, and modernizing Microsoft 365 and SharePoint in Government Community Cloud (GCC) and GCC High.
If you’ve ever found the perfect solution in Microsoft’s documentation, only to realize it applies exclusively to commercial tenants you already know why this blog exists.
Working in a sovereign cloud is a different experience. Features arrive on their own timeline, some capabilities never make it across the boundary, and familiar solutions often require creativity, adaptability, and a rigid understanding of compliance. Unfortunately, practical guidance tailored specifically to GCC and GCC High can be incredibly difficult to find.
That’s where SP in the Wild comes in.
I started this blog based on decades of real-world experience architecting, supporting, and modernizing Microsoft 365 environments where security, compliance, and mission success are just as critical as usability. Every article is written from the perspective of someone in the trenches of the government cloud every day.
Here, you’ll find practical guidance on:
- SharePoint Online architecture in GCC and GCC High
- Building modern intranets despite platform limitations
- Microsoft Teams collaboration in restricted environments
- Governance, permissions, and security best practices
- Compliance-focused document management for regulated organizations
- Real-world lessons learned from complex migrations and production environments
This isn’t a space for theoretical best practices. It’s about solving real problems when features are delayed, unavailable, or behave differently than expected. It’s about sharing practical workarounds and proven design patterns so you can spend less time troubleshooting and more time delivering secure, effective solutions.
My goal is simply to build a community where government professionals can share knowledge. Even with unique platform constraints, we can still build secure, modern, and highly engaging Microsoft 365 experiences.
Welcome to SP in the Wild. Because government cloud deserves more than documentation written for the commercial world.
